Telethon 2017

In our astonishingly beautiful community of majestic mountains and bright blue skies, hunger hides in plain sight. While it isn’t always easy to see, it is a harsh reality for an average of 85,000 residents each month across the Coachella Valley.

Who does it Benefit?

One of the most striking realities FIND has seen in recent years is the rising number of local seniors seeking help with food. We hear most often that our seniors spent decades as self-sufficient individuals, never imagining they would need food assistance. Just a few years ago, we were only serving about 8,400 seniors a month. We now currently serve 18,000 seniors out of 85,000 people a month. These are not numbers we can ignore. “By 2050, the population age 65 and older is expected to reach 84 million, almost doubling from its current size…With a rapidly aging population and many without adequate retirement savings, food insecurity among seniors will continue to increase.”- Feeding America

Kids Summer Club

During the academic year, 8 out of 10 local school children have access to school-based meals through the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program, which often provides breakfast and snacks as well as daily lunch. However, during our scorching hot summers, when budgets are tightest and school is out, less than 1 in 10 local kids have access to school-based meals. Your donation will help fund our year-round Mobile Food Pantry that delivers nutritious and healthy foods to our kids through our “farmer’s market” style distributions. Giving every child a chance to earn an “A+” in healthy eating!
