Food Drives

FOOD DRIVES

The following is a list of tips and reminders of things to do when planning your food drive.

  • Have FUN with your event!
  • Pick the dates of your drive.
  • Perhaps plan a competition with different departments or groups in your organization to compete against each other to bring in the most/healthiest/complete food items.
  • Determine a way to make the food drive educational for everyone involved.  Contact FIND about food bank statistics or HUNGER 101 information to include in mailings or posters.
  • Planning theme days keeps your drive interesting and assures that you receive a variety of foods.  (Mac & Cheese Mondays, Tuna Tuesdays, Peanut Butter Wednesdays, and formula Fridays...be imaginative.)
  • Have a strategy to collect money from those that would rather donate in cash funds. Remember for every $1 = 7 meals at FIND.  Encourage people to write checks, and let them know where they can mail them.  If you do collect cash try to record their name and address so acknowledgments can be sent out by the Food Bank.
  • Plan what sort of reminders you will use throughout the drive.  Posters, email trees, announcements, newsletters.  If you need help with these contact us at FIND.
  • Arrange how you will deliver food to FIND Food Bank, or give us a call to come pick up.
  • Register your drive by phone at 760-775-FOOD (3663).
  • Let us know if there is any outside media or publicity expected at your event.  Please check with us before sending any press releases.
  • Have Fun With Your Event!
